About Sketch2Space Inspiration

Architects and interior designers often work with 2D floor plans that are difficult to visualize spatially until late in the design process. Traditional CAD workflows separate planning, visualization, and collaboration into different tools, slowing down iteration and communication with clients. We wanted to explore how web technologies, AI, and mixed reality could make spatial design more natural and accessible

Sketch2Space was inspired by the idea that designing spaces should feel as intuitive as sketching on paper — but instantly experienced in 3D.

What It Does

Sketch2Space is a WebXR-based mixed reality application that transforms floor plans into interactive 3D environments using AI.

Architects and interior designers can:

Sketch or upload floor plans

Automatically generate 3D spaces using AI

Enter immersive mixed reality through the meta Quest headset

Edit layouts using the MX Ink (MR Stylus for Meta Quest)

Collaborate and explore designs together in real time

The platform removes the barrier between concept and visualization by turning static drawings into immersive spatial experiences

How we built it

Sketch2Space is built entirely using web technologies, enabling lightweight deployment without native installations.

Core Technologies

WebXR for mixed reality experiences in the

Three.js for 3D rendering and spatial interaction

AI models for converting floor plans into 3D geometry Web-based APIs for collaboration and data synchronization

Nest.jst backend to store user progress and files and authentication

Workflow

Users sketch or upload a floor plan.

The drawing is analyzed by AI to detect walls, rooms, and spatial structure.

AI generates a navigable 3D environment.

The environment loads directly into a WebXR mixed reality session.

Designers use the MX Ink stylus as a spatial controller to move objects, adjust layouts, and refine interiors collaboratively.
