💡 Inspiration We were inspired by the lack of access to creative education in rural areas, where students often miss out on opportunities to develop artistic skills due to the absence of trained art teachers. Sketch Mentor was born to bridge this gap by using AI to provide guided art mentorship that’s accessible and scalable.

🚀 What it does Sketch Mentor is an AI-powered platform that allows students to sketch digitally or upload their drawings and receive real-time, personalized feedback. It evaluates sketches for accuracy, proportion, and creativity, suggests improvements, tracks user progress, and recommends adaptive practice tasks—all designed to nurture creativity and learning.

🛠️ How we built it Frontend: Flutter Web for a cross-platform, user-friendly interface

Backend: FastAPI with Python to manage user data and model inference

Machine Learning: Trained a model using TensorFlow/PyTorch and OpenCV to analyze sketches

Database: MongoDB for storing user data, sketches, and progress

Deployment: Backend on Render, frontend on Vercel, model trained using Google Colab

🧱 Challenges we ran into Training a model that could evaluate diverse sketch styles accurately

Ensuring smooth performance on low-end devices and poor internet connections

Designing an intuitive UI for young and first-time users in rural areas

Integrating feedback generation without making the app feel robotic or generic

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a working AI sketch evaluator that delivers real-time feedback

Developed an interface that’s both engaging and easy to use for rural students

Created a solution that works offline-first, ensuring wider accessibility

Completed end-to-end integration and deployment during the hackathon timeframe

📚 What we learned How to fine-tune machine learning models for creative and subjective tasks

The importance of designing for inclusivity, especially in rural education

How to build applications that are both lightweight and effective in low-resource environments

🔮 What's next for Sketch Mentor Add support for regional languages like Tamil to expand accessibility

Enhance the AI model to assess more advanced sketching techniques like shading and perspective

Partner with rural schools and NGOs to run pilot programs
