Skeezer
Inspiration
The inspiration for Skeezer came from the awareness of the social-economic challenges faced in Africa and the recognition of the need to address mental health issues within this context. During our time in campus, conceived the idea of combining health and technology to create a solution that could be easily adopted in Africa. This motivation was driven by the desire to offer seamless, user-friendly, and effective support for mental health using innovative technology.
What it does
Skeezer is an anonymous voice, chat, and video app designed to provide emotional support to users. The platform matches users with volunteer listeners who share similar backgrounds and experiences. These listeners are trained to offer emotional support and conversation on selected topics. The app also integrates the power of blockchain technology, particularly on the Polkadot parachain network, to ensure a secure, decentralized, and trustless environment for users to share their thoughts and feelings
How we built it
The Skeezer platform was built by combining mental health expertise with technology. The app's features, such as anonymous voice, chat, and video support, were developed to create a safe and supportive space for users. The integration of blockchain technology involved the implementation of two major smart contracts: a token_smart_contract to track user participation and a data_management_smart_contract to manage features like Reputation Management, Rewards, and Conflict Resolution. The choice of the Polkadot parachain network added security, scalability, and interoperability to the platform.
Challenges we ran into
Technical integration: Integrating blockchain technology and ensuring its seamless interaction with the app's features could have posed technical challenges.
User adoption: Encouraging users to trust and adopt an anonymous mental health platform might have been challenging, given the sensitive nature of the topic.
Regulatory considerations: Navigating the legal and ethical aspects of providing mental health services, even in an anonymous setting, could have been a challenge.
