Inspiration

From roadside billboards to influencers on Instagram, everyone seems to be promoting one skincare product or another these days. We, along with many others our age, have spent hundreds of dollars on products that simply just don't work. To combat this issue, we created sk(info)--an app to take in your skin type and recommend a skin regimen, based entirely on science by seeing which ingredients work best for each skin type.

What it does

Sk(info) takes in the user's skin type and then recommends products, structured in a specific routine, to fit their skin needs.

How we built it

We split into groups of two. One group focused on the design of sk(info), idealizing how we would want the app to look both now and in the future as we work more on it. They worked using tools such as Figma, HTML, and CSS. The other group focused on backend by web scraping data, then using a JSON file to analyze the data and create an algorithm to generate skincare routines.

Challenges we ran into

One struggle we faced was implementing the design and aesthetics of the wireframes into the actual app. Because of the time constraints, we were heavily focused on making sure the app worked and did not have enough time during the hackathon to design it as we had originally imagined.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Considering that this was a majority of the team's first hackathon, we are quite proud of how much work we were able to accomplish in the given amount of time. We are also proud of our collaboration and we are excited to work on future versions of this project.

What we learned

The frontend team learned a lot about prototyping designs. The backend team learned about web scraping and how to implement design using JavaScript.

What's next for sk(info)

We hope to continue working on the project and achieve the visual impact of our initial design.
