Inspiration
Our primary inspiration was to help students find activities, clubs, and opportunities on campus. Currently, there's no alternative for a hub to connect all students. Sure, there is an Instagram page for advertising events. However, not everyone has Instagram and students are likely to miss them. I know for me the first two years I didn't have Instagram and I was unaware of all the events going on in campus. Our SJU Campus Hub is here to combat this problem.
What it does
The SJU Campus Hub provides information about activities around campus, future club events, study groups, etc. Students can register for events, and this will show up on their personal calendar.
How we built it
Front-End: HTML/CSS/JavaScript Version Control: Git/GitHub Deployment: Vercel
Challenges we ran into
We had issues with making the dynamic calendar and making it sync with events ongoing on campus. Additionally, deploying the website locally and on Vercel caused some issues for us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're all proud of how clean, functionality, and intuitive our website looks and feels. We also communicated our ideas very well with each other and it was able to match our vision we had.
What we learned
We learned that despite everyone working hard and ensuring there's no faults, there's always something overlooked. Multiple times, we thought we had the solution and it ultimately not working out and having to find another solution. Additionally, we learned more of how Live Server and Vercel deployment works over multiple team members.
What's next for SJU Campus Hub
- Being able to access SJU API (connect to SJU events + degree works)
- Adding a database
- Making clubs schedules show up on the calendar
- Authentication Page
- User Feedback
