Inspiration
Since I learned about the importance of sunscreen and the dangers of excessive sun exposure three years ago, I have encouraged family and friends to use sunscreen daily, during all seasons of the year, by researching and recommending the best sunscreen brands and reminding them to use sunscreen every morning, even at home. I thought it would be a great idea to create an app that reminds people to wear sunscreen daily and educate them about sun protection.
What it does
Sizzle is designed to tackle the health concerns of excessive sun exposure by offering real-time UV index updates, personalized sunscreen reminders, and educational content about sun protection. It aims to raise awareness, reduce health risks, and promote preventive health by encouraging regular sunscreen use.
How we built it
I used Figma to create a prototype of the app.
Challenges we ran into
Designing the layout of each page of the app was a challenge because I wanted to maintain a bright and fun vibe to the app while keeping it user-friendly and easy to use. I had to experiment with different color palettes and icons in order to achieve the feel I wanted for the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is the first-ever hackathon I've participated in! So I'm very proud to be able to navigate through formulating an idea and bringing it to life in a short amount of time for the first time.
What we learned
I gained more knowledge about creating user-friendly designs and a new way I can use technology to help solve global problems.
What's next for Sizzle
I plan to upgrade Sizzle from a prototype to a fully fledged app which includes features to be more functional such as a working countdown; working timer setter; a weather, UV index, sunrise and sunset indicator that updates throughout the day based on the user's location; and to have working search engines.
