SiteTrax is a mobile app for that captures real world mobile assets and converts them to their "digital twin" using OCR (Optical Character Recognition). In crypto speak, SiteTrax functions as an Oracle to mint NFTs of real world assets that contain unique IDs (i.e. intermodal shipping containers, VIN numbers on cars, license plates, unique serial numbers of currency, etc.) and stores that data on the blockchain as an immutable ledger.
Inspiration
Real world assets in many large business require a lot of manual data entry from humans capture asset tags and converting that information into digital format. It is very time consuming , inefficient and plagued with transposed and often incorrect numbers and/or characters. With SiteTrax, long gone are the days of manual asset tracking, RFID install/ scanning, expensive smart gates, and “misplacing” valuable assets. SiteTrax can be used by 3PL (3rd Party Logistics), Drayage Companies, Ports, and anyone else who who may have mobile assets such as intermodal containers to be tracked with any smart phone and a camera. The unique ID of the asset, geo-location and time of the image being captured can then be stored on the blockchain. As a service for ChainLink, SiteTrax can be a valuable service for other blockchains to validate real world assets to their "digital twin".
What it does
SiteTrax is an easy to use asset tracking platform that uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) that identifies an assets unique asset ID and converts that to a digital form. SiteTrax uses cameras and smartphones along with our cloud-based translator interpret asset information. The benefits include improving asset tracking quality, increasing staff efficiency & improving facility utilization. SiteTrax.io reduces your facility’s operating costs of trying to locate assets while freeing-up personnel to perform higher value-add activities.
How we built it
SiteTrax has been developed over the past 4 years using a number of technologies including Android, python and machine learning algorithms. The data is pushed to a data source (i.e. Amazon Web Services), the asset ID is interpretted from the imagery upload and then pushed via a REST API to virtually any blockchain, enterprise ledger or distributed database platform. For this hackathon, we have open sourced the Android code to show how the package up the imagery for SiteTrax to be able to analyze and store the digital ID of the asset onto the blockchain.
Challenges we ran into
Finding information about data suppliers in order to provide SiteTrax data as an Oracle source. We have found that this kind of technology can help facilitate creating a "digital twin" of NFTs based on real-world assets.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Launching SiteTrax to the general public in September 2021 (2 months ago) and collaborating with various projects to help them generate digital NFTs of real-world assets.
What we learned
It is a challenge to identify asset tags and unique IDs and the algorithms require a lot of processing power. We want to use ChainLink to empower other blockchains to mint NFTs of real-world assets to help with tracking, tracing and geotagging mobile assets.
What's next for SiteTrax OCR for Real World Mobile Asset Tracking
Continuing to work with both public and private organizations to help them create a "digital twin" of their assets. Right now, the demo process is manual as we have to set up the data capture with each project since the destination may be different. It will take us a while to create an automated way to register, download the Android app and deliver the data in an automated way.
