Inspiration
My roommate packed up everything (woman got a Monitor ! ) for the WiCHack to spend the night at MAGIC @ RIT, but she forgot a hair band to tie her hair. How can a woman conquer the world with her hair in the way? She asked me to get one on my way but that got me thinking, women feel vulnerable to ask for essentials to complete strangers. So I created a community-based app that allows you to borrow/lend from women around you through an app you can trust.
What it does
This is an SOS app that can help women find help nearby, either for emergency essentials or when they are in panic or distress. It allows women in an area to connect with each other in the same area and build connections.
How we built it
After secondary research, this was built on Figma as a prototype
Challenges we ran into
Time ! Understanding ideal interactions were difficult as they should be minimum resistance during distress but also should not trigger false alarms
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Incorporation of major challenges women face today: Safety, Education Lack of Leadership, and Networking.
What we learned:
Interactions are more complex than they seem. Having a timeline is key. Do not expect your 20 min nap will only last for 20 mins in the hackathon anddddd the power of friendship!
What's next for SIS
Development ! More work on the educational aspect.
