Inspiration

Every day, millions of small workers and daily wage earners struggle to find jobs that match their skills. Many are not familiar with English or digital platforms, making it hard for them to access opportunities. I was inspired to build a solution that empowers them with a voice-based, multi-language job finder so that technology truly reaches everyone.

What it does

SIRU THOZHILAGAM is a mobile app that connects workers with job opportunities.

Workers can search and post jobs using voice commands in their own language.

Employers can quickly find local talent for short-term or long-term work.

The app supports multi-language input and has adjustable font sizes for readability. In short, it makes job discovery and hiring simple, fast, and inclusive.

How we built it

Frontend: Built with Flutter (Dart) for cross-platform compatibility.

Backend: Firebase (Firestore for database, Authentication for login).

Voice support: Google Cloud Speech-to-Text API for multilingual speech recognition.

Tools: Android Studio for development, GitHub for version control.

Challenges we ran into

Designing an interface simple enough for first-time smartphone users.

Handling multi-language voice accuracy.

Expand support to more regional languages and dialects.

Add employer verification and trust features.

Launch pilot testing in local communities to gather real feedback.

Scale to other countries where migrant and daily-wage workers face similar challenges.
