Inspiration

Our inspiration is based on people whose interests lie in underwater photography, scuba diving, or watching documentaries about the sea. Our application, Siren Flow, is designed for people whose interests lie in learning about the sea and marine life. The sea is the largest feature on the Earth's surface, covering over 70%, yet it is not well represented in our education system.

What it Does

Siren Flow is an application based on artificial intelligence that uses the Google Gemini API to generate learning materials based on the interests and goals of the user. The application balances the user with two weights, alpha and beta, in order to provide the most appropriate learning material based on the user’s interests and goals.

How We Built It

The application was built in four parts:

• Onboarding of the user based on the user’s interests and goals.
• The application then generates the prompts using the user’s interests and goals.
• The application then generates the content using the Google Gemini API.

Challenges We Ran Into

• Relevance calibration: Ensuring that the responses remain marine science-specific, avoiding any "generic" language drift. This took dozens of prompt iterations.
  
• Response flexibility: Accommodating varying user expertise levels by adjusting response length and format.
  
• Despite these, each iteration showed significant improvement, driving our momentum toward the final build.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We have achieved the feat of developing a niche application that delivers personalized ocean education via adaptive AI, achieving an accurate balance of information and accessibility without training a custom model.

What We Learned

• The power of framing for AI: Prompts require context, including tone, depth, and audience, in addition to answering questions.
  
• Using inference-time personalization via conversation history and user context injection for general LLMs.
  
• Guiding domain-specific accuracy in niche domains such as marine science, avoiding "general" language.

What's Next for Siren Flow

We are excited to announce that we plan to expand Siren Flow to reach individuals in various careers who are not currently in school. Our goal is to provide valuable resources and support to a wider audience. However, at this time, the platform is only available to students currently enrolled in school. We look forward to making Siren Flow accessible to all professionals in the near future.
