Inspiration

What inspired us to make this project was the concept of bots of how they are used in everyday life. They are mostly used for buying newly released items the moment they drop, which can frustrate a lot of people, so we decided that it was best to design a bot that could help bring some joy. This led us to the idea of designing a bot that would tweet out random things that could make its users laugh.

What it does

This prototype allows for a Twitter bot to automatically tweet a random fact, anime quote, joke, cute animals pictures, or daily news. The bot will also be able to generate random bios on its profile. All of this will be done in regular intervals that can be set by the user.

How we built it

First, we brainstormed what our project would be and documented our ideas in a text document. Then, we split up duties with half of the team designing what the project would do and look like while the other had focused on programming. The designers used Figma in order to design the User Experience of the app and used MS Paint to design the images of the bot. In order to get the facts, jokes, and other random things, we had to browse the internet to find those elements and format them so that they could be easily manipulated in the code. After that, we came together and tested out the project for bugs and adjusted accordingly.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we ran into was trying to design a prototype that could be possible for us to make based on our skillsets since we're all beginners. Another challenge was trying to find the random facts and jokes in the right format, which was solved after identifying and searching for them using key terms.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Designing and creating a bot that works like it's supposed to and that we're proud of.

What we learned

We learned that in order to use the bot properly, the bot requires the web driver path of your browser. We also learned that trial and error is a big part of the overall process.

What's next for Sir Twot the Bot

In future iterations, we would like to add filters to the random tweets so that the bot can only tweet certain things. Another change for the future would be to make this bot work for other browsers like Microsoft Edge or Firefox as it currently only works for Google Chrome.
