We were inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic to create something that shows the seriousness of how infectious diseases can spread if left unchecked.
What it does
It creates a visual model for the spread of infectious diseases.
How I built it
We built a simple website, with integration of a couple different APIs.
Challenges I ran into
It was surprisingly difficult to find datasets for various viruses. One big issue we encountered was that our model didn't work when given population numbers, so we had to convert everything to percentages.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We're proud of learning how to use APIs and implement them into our webpage. Another achievement was getting the ratios of the circles to visualize the SIR model nicely and animating them to show the spread of the disease
What I learned
We learned a lot about web design, which we've never done before. We learned how to implement external APIs, and lastly, we learned how to implement things we learned from Differential Equations into this project.
What's next for SIR COVID Visualizer
We'd like to add more cities and more viruses. We'd also like to add an option to model vaccines as a part of our model. This would have been really nice to add since the vaccine is rolling out right now and it would have shown how much this helps alleviate the pandemic.
