SipSavers - Save as you spend.

Inspiration

Just like many other college kids, we love going to local coffee and tea shops in the area and buying our favorite beverages. However, again, just like many other college kids, we are broke. We wanted to create something that would allow saving to be more intuitive (and fun!) for us coffee/tea/boba addicts.

What it does

SipSavers provides a map with local coffee/tea/boba shops in your selected college town, and allows you to create savings buckets depending on what you want to save for (ex. retirement fund, new iPad, vacation fund, etc.) You are able to log a purchase, and select what percentage of your beverage order you want to save, and what savings bucket you would like to put it into. You are also able to view your monthly/yearly savings to see how much you have saved by buying your favorite drink!

How we built it

We used Figma to design our prototype.

Challenges we ran into

Learning how to add prototypes into Figma and make the design cohesive was a learning bump for us, as we have never used Figma before. Also, because this was our first hackathon, we had to learn to figure out where to even start and how to divide project tasks.

We are proud of our prototype's UI/UX design as well as our idea!

What we learned

We learned the ins and outs of Figma, how to work as a team, and the importance of a cohesive UI/UX design. Through the workshops, we learned a lot about different ways to design and develop an app or web page, and we can't wait to use these skills in the future!

What's next for SipSavers - Save as you spend.

Our next step for SipSavers is to make it an actual app with functioning code. We would love to add a "recommendations" section for each coffee shop, where SipSavers will tell you what they recommend you save for based off of the company's mission, your saving goals, spending habits, etc. We want to add different college towns across the United States, and we want the map to be interactive. Also, we would love for SipSavers to work with your personal bank account to automatically deposit money into savings buckets as soon as you log a purchase.
