Inspiration
Twitch communities can feel like a group of friends, but the conversation often disappears when a stream ends. We wanted to give the personal updates and little moments shared between streams a place to continue.
What it does
SinceLastTime gives a streamer’s community a shared space to post life updates, catch up on what’s changed, and pick up conversations during the next stream. Members can browse from different perspectives, while streamers have tools to manage and share their community.
How we built it
We built SinceLastTime as a web app with Next.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL, using Prisma to manage data. It connects to Twitch for sign-in and community context, and includes demo experiences so people can explore the product without connecting a Twitch account.
Challenges we ran into
Twitch sign-in depends on OAuth configuration and external service availability, which can make local demos tricky. We also had to think carefully about how different people experience the same community: a streamer needs management tools, while a viewer needs a comfortable place to catch up and participate.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We brought the idea beyond a mockup: people can explore community and streamer perspectives, and the product includes practical ways to share a community and bring updates back into stream. We’re proud that the experience is designed around continuity and familiar people, rather than an endless feed.
What we learned
A community product needs more than somewhere to post. Small details like privacy, permissions, onboarding, and how information carries from one visit to the next shape whether people feel comfortable coming back. We also learned how much external integrations affect the experience, especially when sign-in depends on a third-party service.
What's next for SinceLastTime
Next, we’d like to make it easier for communities to bring their updates into stream, improve the Twitch sign-in and onboarding experience, and learn from real streamers and viewers about what helps them feel connected between streams.
