Inspiration
I was looking for a project to do over the summer of 2020 and I was contacted by a friend to say that they were looking for a dev to work on a website and panel for a radio. To which I thought this sounds like what I am looking for.
What it does
SimulatorHits is an online Radio Station for simulation games and the website that I helped make has a player, request line( to request songs/shoutouts/etc...), the schedule, previous songs which are connected to Spotify, and much more.
How I built it
The website is built using Laravel 7 which is a PHP framework. I knew this framework before joining the dev team for the radio. It took us 3 weeks to get a website up and running and over the last 9-10 months we have changed the look of the site, made the player more responsive, and have now started version 2 of the site to make it even better.
Challenges I ran into
On one of the systems I created, I ran across errors that I didn't understand, and instead of communicating with the team I did a bit of research online and on Laravel Docs and after a few hours, I was able to fix those errors that I didn't understand. Due to that, I have now been able to quickly fix these errors I encountered due to me doing the research.
What I learned
I have become better at developing websites using Laravel as well as becoming better at styling a website.
What's next for SimulatorHits
I am developing an App in Ionic which is now at a stage that we are testing the player, requests, and the timetable. I have created a list to work through and I am now at a point where the app can be released to both the Apple App Store and Google Play store. Secondly, we have version 2 of the website and panel coming soon and all of this is for the 1 year anniversary for the radio.
