Our inspiration for SIMplicity stems from the challenges faced when trying to communicate with elderly family members who visit the US. These challenges often involve the need to purchase expensive new phones or go through the hassle of installing a new SIM card. As a result, many older individuals find themselves disconnected from their close friends and family during their stay.

SIMplicity is our solution to this common problem. It leverages T-Mobile's "Your Number Anywhere" (YNA) API to provide an easier way for people to stay connected with their elderly loved ones. This web application offers user-friendly features, with a strong focus on safety.

Upon opening SIMplicity, users are greeted with a straightforward home page that allows them to call or text their close contacts. It also includes an emergency SOS button for added security. Recipients outside the app can receive texts and calls from SIMplicity users, check their last known location, and receive alerts about recent crime events in the area.

To make this vision a reality, we integrated T-Mobile's YNA API, which processes incoming phone numbers and connects them to their respective outgoing numbers. On the front end, we used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design the user interface and implement the application's logic.

Given our 24-hour time frame, exploring the documentation and fully utilizing the new API proved to be challenging. Despite this, we're proud to present a working product and are eager to see how we can enhance it as YNA becomes more widely accessible.

Dubhacks was the first hackathon experience for many of our team members, and it turned out to be an invaluable learning experience. We were thrust into unfamiliar territory and successfully navigated our way to a working product.

Through this experience, we gained a deep understanding of API integration, web development, and the importance of creating solutions that address real-world problems.

Looking ahead, our goal is to make SIMplicity even more accessible to a broader audience. We're excited about the upcoming release of new YNA features, such as messaging and voicemail APIs, which we plan to incorporate to further enhance our product.
