Inspiration
We all are busy college students, and reading the emails we get everyday takes a lot of time and energy, specially due to the huge amounts of useless information buried in the emails. Therefore we wanted to create a solution which let us streamline that process.
What it does
Simplemail is your personal email assistant, transforming cluttered inboxes into clear, actionable insights. We leverage cutting-edge AI to summarize your emails into bite-sized pieces and compile them into quick-to-read reports.
How we built it
We built it using Flask, a python web development framework, we used the OpenAI API for integration of AI and the GmailAPI to fetch emails from the Gmail Mailbox.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up OAuth with Gmail was a bit tedious at first, but we solved that and then me and my team basically went through the whole process very efficiently.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we made a functional website in such a short amount of time, and we are also proud on how much we have learnt in these short hours.
What we learned
We learned how to incorporate the gmail and openai apis, we also learned a little about how to use terraform and how to deploy it to the cloud.
What's next for Simplemail
We plan on using the IMAP protocol to extend it to various mailboxes, additionally optimize load times and make the AI parsing a lot faster.
