Inspiration
Being in a campus ministry, it can get inconvenient to actively seek people out and manually update your prayer lists accordingly. With enough people, it can sometimes take up to hours just to update your prayer list once, let alone pray through each request afterwards. That's where Simple Prayer comes in. Simple Prayer is a take on the name of our campus ministry: Simple Truth.
What it does
Simple Prayer is designed to be as simple as possible. with simple buttons and simple UIs to keep the focus on making prayer requests and seeing friends' prayer requests. It allows one to follow the people whose prayer requests they want to see. At any time, one may look at their friends' profiles and see their active, answered, and archived prayer requests. There is also a feed that shows friends' requests in real time.
How we built it
We vibecoded with AI. We didn't have a lot of time, but we did have an idea. We designed everything ourselves on paper and submitted photos of the designs to Cursor. From there, we bug tested, adapted, and updated the program based on what worked, what we liked, and what we didn't.
Challenges we ran into
Setting it up with Purcell, buying a domain name, coming up with a name, and difficulties with the backend (Supabase).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It looks super clean. The friend system works. Account verification through email works.
What we learned
We learned how useful this app could be to our campus ministry and potentially many others as well.
What's next for Simple Prayer
The goal is to work on this a little bit more over the next few weeks and get a streamlined version ready for our whole campus ministry to use.
Unfortunately, we are unable to present on Sunday, as we will all be in church, but it was an incredibly positive experience to work on this as a group.
