Inspiration

I am not a cat. When I was a boy in Bulgaria, I was living in a country where the economy was on the verge of economic collapse. When I was five, I immigrated with my parents to America in search of a better life. I have benefitted from all America has to offer, and Simon Says' mission to democratize finance for all has a very special significance to me. Yesterday, my team and I began to brainstorm for the best project idea. It had to be something that we were all truly passionate about. We threw around crazy ideas, such as an IRS tax scamming site where the profits would go towards charity, but eventually we settled on Simon Says. Although it doesn't fit into most of the prize categories, we were extremely passionate about Simon Says and we were extremely thankful of that today, because we had a really fun time developing.

What it does

Simon Says is a fun experience in which one player is the "leader" and the others are "followers". The followers try to replicate the leader's actions best.

How we built it

The frontend is built on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while the backend is built using Python 3.8 and MongoDB.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges along the way. Towards the middle, we weren't certain that we would be able to finish our project, but we managed to pull through.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am extremely proud of my team for using the allotted time to develop a project which is successful, and serves as both a fun way to pass time and as a symbol of our teamwork and dedication to be able to

What we learned

This was our first hackathon, so our team learned a lot about the development experience. From coming up with an engaging idea to pulling through and crushing the bugs in our project to making sure all features worked as intended, this was a struggle for us, but more importantly it was a learning experience. This experience taught our entire team many development values.

What's next for Simon Says

Our next step for Simon Says is to ensure the competitive integrity of all game mechanics. During the hackathon, we focused mainly on ensuring a fun experience for the players, but in the future we plan on developing a healthy balance of client-server trust in order to ensure that the game remains fair and free of easy exploits which ruin the gameplay experience for other players involved.
