Inspiration

When I was new to Canada, the banking system was a bit different from what I had back home and I always found myself wanting to ask "dumb" questions about this different banking experience. Learn by mistakes without commiting mistakes.

What it does

Simulates a game-like environment for financial activities and education.

How I built it

I am using Python (Django) for the full stack development and simulating different par-real events.

Challenges I ran into

A challange I faced was managing my time between different features as this was my first Solo Hackathon (super fun!) and how to change course when I find out that the initial approach was not feasible in given time frame for my skills.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

Well, accomplishing any thing in this hackathon was going to be an achievement given how I have not worked on a solo/hackathon project in a while. However, I am really proud of the project I have built. Would I have liked to explore some different tech stack? Maybe. However, I learned a lot about adaptability today :) At the end of the day it was a working prototype and that's what I am extremely proud of.

What I learned

It is my first time participating in a 24 hour solo hackation. I was forced to manage different aspects of development of the app and change course a couple of times. But I learnt how to do that effectively.

What's next for SimFin

I am going to continue to polish the app after this Hackathon to the point where I am satisfied with the product and am going to host it on some cloud platform if I find it might actually help someone or maybe just for the sake of it ;)
