About the Project
This project was inspired by the desire to create something both meaningful and accessible. We aimed to build a web app that blends banking and investments, with a focus on making it more user-friendly, particularly for individuals with accessibility needs. The development process was a journey of learning and growth, and we are excited to share the challenges we overcame, the tools we used, and the lessons we learned along the way.
🤝 Inspiration
- Empowerment through learning: The opportunity to learn and grow alongside our team members was incredibly motivating.
- Alignment with our skill set: With our experience in web development, we felt that this project was the perfect fit for our strengths.
- Confidence in the challenge: We were excited about tackling the criteria set out by the challenge statement, as it aligned well with our capabilities.
What it Does
- Accessibility focus: The app is designed to assist users with accessibility challenges, offering an interface that's easier to navigate and interact with.
- Comprehensive platform: Combines banking and investment tools into one unified web app, providing users with a seamless experience for managing their finances.
How We Built It
- We built the project using a combination of React, JavaScript, CSS, Tailwind CSS, and Firebase to create a responsive and interactive web application.
Challenges We Faced
- Backend complexities: Structuring the backend and ensuring everything fit seamlessly on a single page was a significant challenge.
- Learning curve and time constraints: We had to quickly adapt to new tools and technologies while racing against the clock.
- Decision-making: We had to make key decisions about the direction of the project, particularly regarding integration with Goldman Sachs, which posed additional challenges.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
- Enhanced accessibility: We implemented auditory feedback for certain tabs, making the app more accessible for users with visual impairments.
- Strong teamwork: Our ability to support each other through challenges helped us stay on track and complete the project.
- Personal growth: We’re proud of how much we learned about problem-solving, coding in new languages, and adapting quickly to unfamiliar tools and frameworks.
What We Learned
- GitHub and collaboration: Overcoming the challenges of using both GitHub Web and GitHub Desktop, we became more proficient at managing version control and collaborating effectively with teammates.
- React: We deepened our understanding of React and its interface, improving our front-end development skills.
- Seamless code integration: We learned how to pull and push code more smoothly between team members and integrate different parts of the application into a single page without issues.
- Layered development: We gained valuable experience in layering code on top of each other in the same page, improving the app's functionality and design.
What's Next for Silverwoman Satchel
- Enhanced security: As Goldman Sachs is known for its innovative security measures, we plan to further enhance the app's cybersecurity features.
- Investment insights: We'll focus on expanding our knowledge of investment tools and resources to make the platform even more valuable to users.
- Improved UI/UX: We plan to add more visual aids and features to further improve the user interface and accessibility.
- Colorblind mode: We aim to implement a mode specifically designed for colorblind users to ensure everyone can easily use the app.
