Inspiration
Both of our grandparents are/were farmers and we were motivated to find ways to make their lives better and enable them to pursue their passions and interests as more informed economic players.
What it does
It democratizes institutional-level data analysis and provides a insight-filled dashboard for farmers who want to keep up with the markets, headlines, harvesting calendars, and also give access to optimal sale strategies/decision infrastructure when it comes time to feed their families.
How we built it
We implemented a data ingestion network from public APIs, which then flows into a mathematical digestion machine, and whose outputs are then interpreted into simple English by an LLM model as suggestions with confidence intervals.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues with deciding which data sources to pick because we wanted to keep things open source and available but also as accurate as possible. Additionally, figuring out the mathematical framework and how to structure scenario analysis/expected value calculations was a big consideration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the final webpage we made and the usability it provides.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the current nature of the farming and crop processing industry.
What's next for Silo
We hope to add additional support for more niche commodities or even livestock and also include a mobile app with notifications for bids and pricing changes.
