Inspiration
“Our inspiration for SILO came from a personal experience. One of our team members traveled to Japan for a professional color analysis, where they discovered which hair colors, jewelry tones, and makeup palettes best complemented their features. While the experience helped them feel more confident in their appearance, it came at a cost of around $200, and accessing these services often requires traveling to specialized studios, many of which are located in Asia. This made us realize that personalized fashion guidance can be both valuable and inaccessible. We wanted to bring that experience directly to people's phones and extend it beyond color analysis to the entire online shopping journey. We created SILO to make shopping more personalized by helping users discover colors and silhouettes that suit them, explore tailored clothing recommendations, and visualize how items might look on their own body before purchasing. Online shopping gives us endless options, but more options don't necessarily mean better decisions. We scroll through hundreds of products, guess which colors suit us, and struggle to imagine how clothes will look on our own bodies. What if shopping could understand you, instead of making you figure everything out yourself? That's why we built SILO.
What It Does
SILO is a personalized fashion platform that helps users find clothing that complements their unique features and fits their body proportions. Users start by completing a personal style profile, including a color analysis and their body measurements. SILO then brings this information together in a personalized SILO Passport. Using that profile, users can explore curated fashion recommendations, view product details and available sizes, and access purchase links. They can also preview clothing on a personalized avatar to better visualize how an item might look on their own silhouette.
How We Built it
Using React Native, AI-powered color analysis, personalized fashion recommendations, and virtual try-on technology, we explored how multiple AI systems could work together to create a more intuitive commerce experience. Along the way, we tackled challenges involving image accuracy, real-time processing, and creating a seamless user experience.
What We Learned
Through this experience, we learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and adaptability. Since we had just met, we had to quickly understand each other's strengths, share ideas, and trust one another to bring SILO to life. We also learned that it’s very important to know how to prioritize features, solve problems under pressure, and turn that idea into something tangible. In addition, we learned that even with limited time and resources, a team can accomplish a lot when everyone works toward a shared goal and interests.
Challenges
One of our biggest challenges was time. We only met on the day of the event, so we had to learn how to work with each other, brainstorm ideas, divide responsibilities, and build our prototype from scratch within a very limited timeframe. On top of that, we didn’t sleep at all throughout the process. Despite these challenges, we learned to communicate effectively, adapt quickly, and work together to bring SILO to life.
