Inspiration

Our journey started with the millions of students in rural areas who wake up as early as 5:00 AM just to secure a seat in a crowded school. We were moved by the staggering reality that the Philippines faces a shortage of 165,000 classrooms, an infrastructure gap that would take 20 years to solve at the current pace. Simultaneously, our teachers are drowning in administrative tasks, spending over 12 hours every week on manual paperwork and lesson planning. We built Silid because students and educators cannot wait two decades for a better place to learn.

What it does

Silid is a smart, unified Learning Management System (LMS) designed to eliminate friction for both teachers and students.

Guro Bot (AI Partner): For teachers, it auto-generates comprehensive lesson plans in seconds to reclaim lost hours. For students, it provides 24/7 AI tutoring to answer questions and clarify complex concepts.
Seamless Management: Students join their specific classrooms instantly using a simple Teacher's Code, removing the barrier of complicated registrations.
Gamified Experience: To drive engagement, Silid incorporates XP, badges, and progress bars, turning the struggle of learning into a rewarding achievement.
Unified Environment: Unlike current fragmented tools, Silid brings native AI and analytics into one beautiful, intuitive interface.

How we built it

We utilized a modern and scalable tech stack to ensure Silid is fast, responsive, and reliable:

React: Used for the frontend to create a seamless user experience across all devices.
Supabase: Powers our backend, providing real-time database management and secure user authentication.
Google Gemini: Provides the native AI intelligence for Guro Bot, enabling advanced lesson generation and interactive student support.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest hurdles was the technical pivot regarding offline-first capabilities. While we initially aimed for a fully offline infrastructure, we shifted our focus toward creating a high-performance Smart LMS that prioritizes immediate teacher relief and student engagement through AI. We also worked hard to address the problem of "Fragmented AI," ensuring our tools were native to the platform so users wouldn't have to switch contexts constantly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a platform that is not just a repository, but an active teaching partner. We successfully integrated Native AI that can generate teaching materials and provide real-time tutoring. We also built a system that allows for multi-section management, enabling a teacher to manage a master class with unlimited sections effortlessly.

What we learned

Through our research, we learned about the severe learning crisis, where student proficiency rates can drop to as low as 0.47% by Grade 12. We discovered that the K-12 segment is the largest and most underserved in the global $20B LMS market. Most importantly, we learned that teachers and students are actively hungry for better, more human-centric solutions that prioritize their time and engagement.

What's next for Silid

Our goal is for Silid to become the default LMS for modern classrooms worldwide. We plan to further refine our AI capabilities to support diverse language contexts and explore future infrastructure improvements that can bridge the digital divide for students in the most remote areas.
