Inspiration
Silex started because of a friend of mine who lost a significant amount of money gambling.
What it does
Silex is an iOS app designed to help people quit gambling and track their recovery. It gives users a structured place to monitor their progress, check in with themselves, manage gambling urges, and see how far they've come. The goal is to make recovery feel tangible and motivating without overwhelming the user.
How we built it
Silex was built natively for iOS using Swift and SwiftUI. I focused heavily on making the experience fast, private, and easy to use, with a clean interface that doesn't feel clinical or judgmental. The product was designed around small daily interactions rather than complicated recovery programs.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing for a sensitive problem without making the app feel depressing or intimidating. Gambling addiction is also a complex subject, so I had to think carefully about wording, onboarding, motivation
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that Silex went from an idea inspired by a real problem to a finished iOS product that people can actually use
What we learned
Building Silex taught me that products dealing with behavioral change need a very different approach from ordinary utility apps. Small UX decisions, wording, privacy, and even how progress is presented can matter a lot
