SilentKosice
SilentKosice application was developed to measure noise in the city. The problem we tried to focus on is that is European cities are forced to measure noise pollution every 5 years, which can be challenging for smaller cities like Kosice. Moreover high noise pollution has impact on the people's life such as increasing stress or causing problems with sleeping and that can lead to more serious diseases.
So we came up with clever and simple solution. We create application which consists two parts. The first one is mobile application for common people in the city, who role is to gather data over the city with their mobile phones. Motivation for people to do this is that city will give them some rewards such as free ticket for public transport. On the other side, city will save money for expensive noise measuring provided by companies.
Second part of the application is web page which serves as public heat map displaying values of decibels, gathered from the audio files. This web page can be used by citizens to choose place to live, or by construction companies which can use these data to select location of their future construction.
