Inspiration
Urban safety is still reactive instead of preventive. Many existing safety apps rely on visible panic buttons, which can escalate danger in real-life situations. We wanted to create a system that works quietly, something that protects users without drawing attention. SilentShield was inspired by the idea that real safety should be subtle, smart, and always accessible.
What it does
SilentShield is a mobile application disguised as a normal calculator app. When a pre-set secret trigger is entered, it silently activates an emergency protocol. The app shares live location, records audio and captures images, uploads encrypted evidence to secure cloud storage, and sends silent alerts to emergency contacts , all without alerting anyone nearby.
How we built it
We first prompt engineered our idea and then used Base44 to make our idea come to life. Location tracking, background recording, and secure uploads were integrated with proper permission handling and encryption standards to ensure privacy and reliability.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a believable disguise interface with dynamic app icon switching. We implemented encrypted data handling and a working emergency dashboard simulation. Most importantly, we built a solution that addresses personal safety in a realistic and practical way.
What we learned
We learned that security is not just about encryption — it’s about anticipating user behavior and potential threats. Building discreet safety technology requires balancing usability, privacy, and system resilience. We also learned how critical clear system architecture is when dealing with sensitive emergency data.
What's next for Silent Shield
Future development includes AI-based threat detection, wearable device integration, and direct collaboration with city emergency systems. We aim to expand multi-language support and improve cloud infrastructure scalability.
