Inspiration
Traditional seat card creation relies on manual Word/PPT editing, which is time-consuming, error-prone and hard to sync across devices. There lacks an all-in-one lightweight tool that lets users quickly generate standardized seat cards without complex software installation. We built this multi-end seat card generator to solve the pain points of event organizers, conference staff and wedding planners who frequently need batch seat card production.
What it does
Sika is a convenient cross-platform seat card generation tool. It supports PC, tablet and mobile access, enabling users to import attendee lists in bulk, customize seat card sizes, fonts, colors and layout templates, preview effects in real time, and export printable high-definition files. It covers multiple scenarios including meetings, banquets, weddings and forums, with one-click batch generation and flexible editing of single entries to meet diverse layout demands.
How we built it
We adopted a cross-end responsive front-end framework to ensure consistent display on all device sizes. The back-end uses lightweight server architecture to process batch data import, template rendering and file conversion efficiently. We developed built-in common seat card templates for quick reuse, and designed an intuitive drag-and-drop editor for personalized layout adjustments. File export modules support PDF and picture formats optimized for printing, and we added local cache functionality to automatically save user drafts across devices.
Challenges we ran into
Achieving uniform layout rendering across different screen sizes; mobile preview often suffered layout distortion when adjusting card dimensions. Processing large batch attendee data smoothly without lag or crash during mass generation. Balancing rich customizable design features while keeping the operation interface simple and beginner-friendly. Optimizing exported file clarity to guarantee sharp print effects without bloating file size.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully delivered a truly multi-end seat card tool with zero software download required—users can operate fully via browsers on any device. The batch generation function supports hundreds of seat cards rendered within seconds, and our built-in template library covers most mainstream event scenarios. We also realized cross-device draft synchronization, greatly cutting down the time users spend making seat cards compared with traditional office tools, and received positive feedback from early event industry testers.
What we learned
We learned that lightweight cross-end tools should prioritize simplicity over excessive functions; most users only need core template and batch export capabilities rather than advanced graphic design features. We also understood the importance of real-time preview for print-oriented tools, as users need to eliminate layout errors before exporting files. In addition, local data caching greatly improves user experience by avoiding repeated list uploads.
What's next for Sika
Add cloud team collaboration, allowing multiple staff to edit the same seat card project simultaneously. Expand more exclusive templates for niche scenarios such as graduation ceremonies and award galas. Support direct wireless printing connection to skip file download steps. Develop a one-click QR code embedding function for seat cards to store attendee information and meeting schedules. Launch customizable brand watermark and logo upload features for corporate events.
