Inspiration
Imagine two people trying to have a simple conversation — one communicates through sign language, the other through speech — but neither can understand the other. Even with phones in their hands, there’s still no smooth, real-time way for them to talk back and forth naturally. That gap is what inspired us. Over 70 million people rely on sign language as their primary way of communicating, yet most existing tools only work in one direction, feel slow, or require extra hardware. Conversations end up feeling delayed, awkward, or incomplete. We wanted to change that. Our goal was to build something simple and practical — an app that could sit in your pocket and act like a real-time interpreter. No complicated setup, no noticeable delay. Just two people having a conversation, with the phone quietly bridging the gap between them. That idea became Signly.
