Inspiration: Inspired by seeing the struggles faced by hearing-impaired students.
What it does: It allows people with hearing problems to communicate with those around them. The people will then be able to speak, having their voice converted into text. A conversation will be possible.
How we built it: We used Python and a custom-trained AI to allow hearing-impaired people to communicate/have a conversation with those around them.
Challenges we ran into: Time was a huge constraint as we had further plans for the project, but we were not able to implement them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Being able to work together as a team and code a working Image recognition system that identifies letters in ASL.
What we learned: We learned how to manage time, use Python and image recognition, and use AI tools.
What's next for SignSpeak: If we had more time we would have implemented these. The next steps are, adding an ASL to Speech converter and being able to recognize and interact with people of different languages.
