App purpose:
- The gap between SL users and non-users has widened due to the use of masks, making life difficult for SL users -App will allow non-SL users to learn basic signs necessary for daily use such as directions, greetings, and basic conversation to facilitate communication between people -Allow SL users of different regions and different learning levels to have immediate access to a resource to refer to when communicating with other SL users -Different regions and countries have different forms of sign language but some signs are universal, so having basic understanding of common signs encourages communication
We used: -Video guides -Language (pic) guides and text guides -Use daily quiz checks to track progress of users -Search option for immediate access to unknown signs -Similar to a dictionary
Why: -Many languages already available in school, ASL not one
- There are hard-of-hearing students at our school who have struggled due to the necessity of masks limiting lip-reading
