Inspiration

Singapore is gradually moving towards a more socially-inclusive society. In the recent National Day Rally, it was the first time real-time sign language translation was featured. Many hearing-impaired was able to catch the most important political speech of the year live.

Another significant milestone was the establishment of a new educational model whereby sign language will be used to support instructions for hearing-impaired students. This was made possible with the efforts from The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf), Ministry of Education and Mayflower Primary School.

The team aims to promote public understanding of deafness and awareness of deaf people in the society via a fun, interactive song signing game.

What it does

The browser game SIGNify was built around song-signing, a way of song interpretation using sign language. It allows people with hearing impairment to enter the world of music while simultaneously allowing the able-bodied to join in together in that moment. When more people are increasingly exposed to sign language vocabulary, communication would improve on the whole. Thus, promote public understanding of deafness and awareness of deaf people in the society.
