Inspiration

The inspiration for SIGNAL comes from humanity’s timeless fascination with the unknown. What happens when a message arrives from somewhere beyond our understanding? Is it a threat, a warning, or an invitation? I wanted to explore the emotional journey that unfolds when the boundary between reality and the cosmic unknown begins to crack open. The concept grew from my ongoing AI short-film universe, which includes fully developed characters, environments, and world-building. SIGNAL became both a standalone art piece and a window into this larger narrative world.

What it does

SIGNAL is an AI-driven music video that blends sci-fi mystery with avant-garde visual storytelling. It visualizes the moment when a mysterious deep-space signal tears open a rift in reality, merging surreal imagery with an AI-generated musical performance by my virtual singer YUII. The video guides viewers through fear, curiosity, and eventual acceptance, suggesting that the unknown may not be a danger—but a frequency that connects all existence.

How I built it

SIGNAL was created entirely by one person—from music, scriptwriting, storyboarding, and editing to visual effects. On the visual side, I used AI generation techniques to bring impossible scenes to life: dimensional fractures, frozen time sequences, and intersections of parallel universes. Every shot was designed to reflect a cinematic progression of mood—from cold technological blues to warm golden hues symbolizing hope and connection. On the music side, the entire soundtrack was fully original. I composed the music myself, wrote all the lyrics, and produced the final track using SUNO 5. The performance was delivered by YUII, my custom-created AI virtual singer, designed specifically to inhabit the surreal and emotional world of SIGNAL. By integrating original music, AI-driven visuals, and hand-crafted narrative design, the project became a unified artistic experience.

Challenges I ran into

Creating a story that balances sci-fi tension with emotional depth required extensive experimentation. Maintaining visual coherence was a challenge, especially when generating scenes that do not exist in reality—such as multidimensional rifts, frozen time sequences, or universe-colliding visuals. Ensuring they looked dramatic rather than chaotic demanded many rounds of refinement. Integrating YUII’s performance into this surreal world introduced another set of challenges. I wanted her singing to feel powerful, expressive, and truly present in the scene—not just an AI voice layered over visuals. To achieve this, I developed a custom workflow specifically for capturing vocal strength, facial expression, and performance realism. This involved combining multiple AI models and fine-tuning motion, timing, and emotional cues until YUII’s delivery felt authentic within the shifting environments. Because parts of the MV come from my larger AI short-film universe, I also needed to maintain consistency in character design, world-building, and story logic across different projects. Balancing innovation with continuity became its own creative challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud that SIGNAL successfully merges sci-fi storytelling with experimental visual art in a way that feels both cinematic and emotionally resonant. Completing every part of the production alone—from audio to VFX—demonstrates the power of combining human creativity with modern AI tools. I’m also proud of YUII’s performance, which brings a unique identity and recognizable signature to the project’s universe.

What I learned

Through this project, I learned how to push AI tools beyond simple generation and into meaningful narrative expression. I gained deeper insight into building a cohesive fictional universe and maintaining continuity when creating multiple related works. Most importantly, I learned how to use AI not just as a tool, but as a creative collaborator for crafting emotions, atmosphere, and world-building.

What's next for Signal

Next, I plan to expand SIGNAL into a full AI short film, exploring the origins of the mysterious signal, its impact on humanity, and the deeper philosophy behind the “frequency that connects all beings.” YUII will continue to play a central role, evolving both musically and narratively. Future versions may include interactive elements where audiences can generate their own interpretations of the SIGNAL universe, opening the door to a multi-dimensional narrative experience.
