Inspiration

During emergencies and natural disasters, finding reliable information quickly can be overwhelming. Critical details about weather conditions, emergency shelters, evacuation routes, and safety guidelines are often scattered across multiple websites. When internet connectivity is lost, accessing these resources becomes even more difficult. We wanted to solve this problem by creating one centralized platform that helps people stay informed, find safety, and make better decisions during emergencies.

What it does

Signal Bridge is an all-in-one emergency information platform designed to make critical resources accessible from one place. Its key features include:

Centralized Emergency Information: Brings essential emergency resources together in one convenient platform.

  • Live Shelter and Weather Updates: Connects users to shelter information and weather websites to help them stay informed about changing conditions.

  • AI-Powered Chatbot: Helps users find relevant emergency information by answering questions and conducting web searches.

  • Downloadable Offline Maps: Allows users to access saved maps without an internet connection, supporting navigation when connectivity is unavailable.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was bringing information from different websites into one place while keeping it relevant and up to date. We also had to consider the limitations of internet connectivity during emergencies and how users could continue accessing essential resources offline.

Integrating web search into the chatbot while making information easy to understand presented another challenge. We needed to balance multiple features while maintaining a simple user experience that people could navigate quickly under pressure.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have developed a unified concept that combines emergency resources, live information sources, AI-powered web search, and offline maps into one platform.

Instead of forcing users to switch between multiple websites and tools, Signal Bridge aims to provide a more streamlined way to find answers and prepare for emergencies. We are especially proud of prioritizing offline accessibility, recognizing that the moment people need emergency information most may also be when connectivity is least reliable.
