Elevator Pitch
"Conquer the chaos of bureaucracy in a hilariously absurd corporate dystopia where forms fight back, and sanity hangs by a thread."
About the Project
Inspiration
Every day, we navigate a labyrinth of poorly designed user interfaces—endless forms, buttons that seem to defy logic, and CAPTCHAs that make us question reality. Instead of complaining, we decided to take it up a notch and ask: What if these terrible UIs were alive—and even worse on purpose? Thus, the idea for Bureaucracy Hero was born.
What We Learned
- UI/UX Principles (or the Lack Thereof): Designing intentionally bad interfaces is surprisingly challenging. It gave us a whole new appreciation for good UI—and a deep understanding of what not to do.
- Comedy in Code: Injecting humor into interactions without frustrating users to the point of rage is an art we perfected (sort of).
- The Human Spirit vs. Technology: Watching people solve ridiculous "puzzles" we created taught us a lot about perseverance (and how far we can push someone before they give up).
How We Built It
Front-End Madness: We used React (because irony) to build intentionally convoluted forms. Buttons move, drop-downs glitch, and error messages are poetic.
Captcha Rhythm: Custom CAPTCHA challenges that combine riddles, math, and optical illusions to test the limits of user patience.
Challenges Faced
- Striking a Balance: How do you make a bad UI intentionally frustrating without alienating players? We learned where to draw the line (barely).
- Creating Relatable Pain: The humor comes from reflecting universal experiences of bureaucracy, but designing relatable badness required careful observation of real-world pain points.
- Testing Patience: Watching testers face off against the intentionally broken mechanics was both hilarious and enlightening (sorry, testers). One of the other challenges is devs testing their product becomes harder when the UI is purposefully made to broken.
Final Thoughts
Bureaucracy Hero isn't just a game; it's a love letter to the absurdities of the modern digital world. It’s proof that even the worst systems can spark creativity, laughter, and maybe a little existential despair.
