Inspiration

Our chosen theme is Environment and Food Wastage (Question 1).

What it does

85% of food that isn't used in a restaurant is thrown out. We wanted to solve this problem. Our hack allows food stall and restaurant owners/managers to track the stock of their ingredients, get recommendations on how much ingredients are required based on data and to automatically order ingredients from their supplier every month or when it goes below a set threshold. By using data to track inventory in the kitchen, it helps to minimize food wastage in restaurants especially when ingredients expire and cannot be used anymore.

How we built it

Our group began by discussing the feasible features to be created within 24 hours for this project. After settling on the relevant CRUD features, we set up the boilerplate code with our chosen libraries. After implementing the architecture of the code, we proceeded to make an authentication service to identify users, before working on the CRUD features, which we distributed amongst ourselves. When we faced any programming issues, we communicated via Telegram to resolve them.

Challenges we ran into

One of our group mates had Covid a day before the hackathon and this reduced the amount of work we could complete during the hackathon. Yet, we are happy with the outcome of our web app.

What we learned

We learned that we need to be adaptable and have each others' backs when working in a team. Unforeseen circumstances can happen anytime just as it did during this weekend, yet we managed to complete what we set out to achieve.
