Inspiration
Allow people to document and gamify traveling. Show off your travels to friends. Create and pin pictures to locations. Its a mixture between a GPS game and a social media.
How we built it
First off was deciding our tech stack. For the frontend this was a close decision between unity and flutter. We choose flutter because we didnt want the app to become to bloated and keep it lightweighted. The backend was either spring boot or firebase. At the end we used spring boot for most things, but firebase to handle authentication.
Challenges we ran into
We had a very tough time with deeplinks and map markers. Eventually we made map markers work, but for the deeplinking we hit technical limits which forced us to replace a whole lot of the authentication mechanism.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to deliver all kinds of points of interest and allowing to collect them with a cooldown.
What we learned
How to render custom maps with flutter and handle points of interest.
What's next for SightSeeker
There is a lot of functionality we hope to add in the future. Like regional and global events, Highscore lists and much more.
