Inspiration
Anxiety disorders affect 40 million people in the United States. These range from generalized anxiety disorders, panic disorders, specific phobias, agoraphobia, and social anxiety. Today, treatments for anxieties include medications and behavioral therapy. Our idea is to develop a self-service tool to help people address their anxiety disorders and take control of their own anxieties in a safe and comfortable environment, by visualizing their goals and identifying triggers.
What it does
SightCast helps users to cope with difficult emotions and anxieties by building mental resilience through goal visualization, as well as isolating and confronting triggers. The user is able to specify their goals and fears through our mobile app, which then creates a visualization of that goal or fear with VR. Users can use this tool to prepare themselves mentally for an event such as giving a public presentation, or confront their specific fears in a safe environment.
How we built it
We built SightCast on the iOS platform as the entry point for users to specify their goals and fears in their lives. For each goal or fear, users build immersive scenes containing objects from images, personal photos and videos. Uses can use voice commands to describe their environment which populates the videos, images and objects. They build their assets pulled from both a centralized, public database as well as their personal library. The intent is to then compile these images and videos to create a 3D immersive setting using a VR application like TiltBrush. Users visualize their desired outcomes; identifying, confronting and overcoming triggers from their anxiety.
Challenges we ran into
The two main challenges was thinking about how to make this affordable to the average user, and gaining clarity the complexities of anxiety disorders, and how to treat the symptoms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Defining the idea with a unique value proposition, and building the prototype of the app.
What we learned
Getting people to acknowledge their fears and anxieties is the hard first step. Then actively seeking treatment is the next barrier due to concerns of privacy concerns.
What's next for SightCast
Build the open-source public database of images, videos and objects, and the VR technology application platform that. Integrate the building blocks of the app, Connect with an image library database on the Cloud.
