Inspiration

As internet usage continues to grow among children and teenagers, online threats such as phishing, scams, cyberbullying, and financial fraud have become increasingly common. However, cybersecurity education is often too technical or unengaging for younger audiences.

We created SiDigi to make digital safety education fun, interactive, and easy to understand. Inspired by the gamified learning experience of Duolingo, SiDigi encourages users to build safe digital habits through bite-sized lessons, quizzes, and rewards.

What it does

SiDigi is a gamified Progressive Web App (PWA) designed to teach digital literacy and online safety, primarily for elementary and middle school students.

The platform currently includes three learning modules:

Cybersecurity
Online Scam Awareness
Financial Literacy

Users learn through interactive lessons, multiple-choice quizzes, and chat simulation scenarios while earning XP, unlocking achievements, maintaining streaks, and tracking their learning progress. The goal is to make cybersecurity education engaging rather than intimidating.

The interface follows a mobile-first design philosophy with reusable components, lightweight animations, and a consistent design system inspired by modern educational applications.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was simplifying complex cybersecurity concepts without losing their educational value. We had to redesign technical topics into bite-sized learning experiences that younger users could easily understand.

Another challenge was building a reusable component system that keeps the UI consistent while allowing future expansion with new modules, quizzes, achievements, and learning mechanics.

Balancing playful gamification with meaningful educational content was also an important design challenge throughout development.

Created an engaging learning journey inspired by Duolingo while adapting it for digital literacy.
Successfully integrated quizzes, achievements, XP progression, streaks, and interactive learning into a cohesive user experience.

What we learned

This project taught us that effective cybersecurity education is not only about providing accurate information but also about presenting it in a way that is engaging and accessible.

What's next for SiDigi

Our next goal is to make SiDigi an even smarter and more personalized learning platform.

Ultimately, we envision SiDigi becoming a comprehensive digital literacy platform that empowers the next generation to become safer, smarter, and more responsible digital citizens.
