Inspiration
Once in a while, all of us need help with different tasks. For instance, one of our teammates owns a dog, but she and her sister both have lots of school work and her parents are both working. They are all too busy to take her dog out for walking. We came up with the idea of this app to help my teammate and other communities facing similar issues. Also, high schoolers often struggle to find volunteer hours, so this app will help them.
What it does
It is a platform which allows different users to communicate with one another. When someone needs some help, they just need to make a post about it and others get notified immediately. Each service is called a "quest." If a high school student wants to do the task for volunteer hours, they accept the "quest." Each quest is worth a different amount of points, and there is a leaderboard which acts as motivation for the students to get more points.
How we built it
We tried to create our prototype using Google Cloud, but we ended up using Base44 to create the real app.
Challenges we ran into
When using Base44, we needed to be very specific about the components of the app. There were multiple times when we struggled to get Base44 to add the exact components that need
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a functioning platform that turns everyday skills into local opportunities, allowing community members to teach, learn, and connect instead of relying only on traditional services. Created a space where people can discover talent within their own neighborhoods. Took an idea from concept to a working app in a short amount of time while balancing design, user experience, and functionality.
What we learned
We learned about new platforms and softwares that could aid us while building an app, and how proper teamwork is essential to build a functional app.
What's next for SideQuest
Introducing AI into the app, matching skills and services based on talent level. Add a reputation feature, along with trust scores and rating. We want to slowly start integrating volunteer hour system, and maybe even start a payment method as well.
