Inspiration
I wanted to make a simple website where people can find small jobs and earn some extra money. I got the idea from apps like Quest: Hire a Hero, but I wanted to make my own version with more focus on freelancers and their profiles. Instead of competing with hundreds of people, freelancers can apply for a quest and wait for the person who posted it to choose them.
What it does
SideQuest connects people who have small jobs with people looking for side work. Users can post a quest with a description, price, and category. Freelancers can browse the available quests and send an offer if they are interested.
The freelancer doesn't instantly get the job. They have to wait while the quest owner checks the different offers. The owner can look at each applicant's profile, skills, description, and portfolio before choosing someone.
Users can also create their own profile to show their skills and previous work. This gives freelancers a better way to show what they can do and helps quest owners make a better decision.
How we built it
I focused on making the website simple and easy to use. The main part of SideQuest is the quest board, where users can find available jobs and see important information such as the price and category.
I also added profiles, quest posting, applications, and a wallet system to make the platform feel more complete.
All of this are done by using lovable AI as my main assistant tools in this project while helping me to improve my skill in modern programming world. Lovable AI also help me with hosting the website online.
Challenges we ran into
One of my biggest challenges was designing the application system. I wanted multiple freelancers to be able to apply while still giving the quest owner full control over who gets selected.
I also had to balance the number of features with keeping the website simple and easy to understand.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that SideQuest became more than just a basic job listing website. It gives freelancers a place to show their skills while giving quest owners control over who they want to work with.
What we learned
What's next for SideQuest
I would like to add messaging, reviews, notifications, better portfolio features, and a proper payment and escrow system. I also want to improve the search and filtering system so users can find suitable quests more easily.
