Inspiration and Ideation

Have you ever wanted to step away from the main quest? We all know the feeling of wanting to go outside but get stumped when it comes to where to go or what to do. SideQuest makes the decision for you with spontaneous adventures in your area. Our app was inspired by old school RPG games. Quests are delivered by an NPC with nostalgic charm. Quests could range from visiting a nearby cafe to kayaking at a cove. The possibilities are endless and at the touch of a button!

Implementation

Starting from our first brainstorming session, we delved into the creative process: creating wireframes and prototypes in Figma, which we would then reference when building our UI in Unity. Implementing the Unity UI Builder, we developed the different scenes and assets of our game according to the prototypes. Then later connecting our overlays to the ArcGIS API, which provided the interactive map, which the entire game is based on. Furthermore, we integrated the OpenAI API into our NPC dialogue to generate customized quest descriptions based on different localities. Sewing all the components together has proudly delivered the first demo of SideQuest!
