What's next for SidelineScope — amateur sports analysis on Ring
Inspiration
We noticed that amateur athletes often lack access to high-level video analysis used by professional teams. We wanted to bridge this gap by using the ubiquitous presence of Ring to capture and analyze game-day footage on local fields.
What it does
SidelineScope automates the breakdown of amateur sports games by identifying player movements and tactical patterns. It processes video streams from Ring to provide coaches and players with detailed feedback reports to help them improve their game performance.
How we built it
We built the core logic using TypeScript and deployed our microservices on amazon-eks for scalability. We utilized amazon-sagemaker for training our computer vision models and haystack to manage the complex retrieval of sports-related metadata.
Challenges we ran into
Synchronizing high-definition video streams from amazon-ring with our analysis pipeline was initially difficult. We also struggled with optimizing the latency when passing data through amazon-sagemaker to ensure timely feedback loops.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully integrated a seamless end-to-end pipeline that takes raw Ring footage and outputs a structured tactical analysis. Our ability to handle diverse sports movements using haystack was a major win for us.
What we learned
We learned a lot about managing resource-intensive video processing tasks within an amazon-eks environment. We also gained deep insights into how to use haystack for indexing and querying unstructured sports video data efficiently.
What's next for SidelineScope
We plan to expand our model library to include more sports like basketball and soccer. We also hope to implement real-time coaching alerts that push notifications back to the Ring interface.
