Inspiration

I have so many goals and dreams both big and small. The big ones seemed too big to handle (like "Get Better at Guitar") and too abstract to start, and the little ones just always fell by the wayside (like "Drink 2L Water a day") because I would start, and then stop a few days later when the motivation wore off or life got busy. The inspiration for this app came from that. I wanted this year to be different, where when I looked at my notes from my last "New Years Resolutions" I didn't want to see that I hadn't done anything on that list. I wanted to start hitting those small goals, through consistent action every day, and those big goals too, by knowing what I should be doing every day. If I had a little hero in my pocket that worked stuff out for me, made a plan, and prompted me each day to make sure I was on track. That would be great!

What it does

You describe what you want, a goal big or small and it works out the actions that you would need to perform each day to achieve it using AI. Then it takes this plan and provides specific tools for you, like the ability to track habits, or it will send unique messages each day to provide other angles or ways to improve your approach. It makes sure you keep on track with notifications and reminders. It works on your goal whilst you sleep. Most goals don't need motivation, they need discipline. And this helps you stay disciplined.

How we built it

The AI portion was the most important. I build a basic messaging system to talk with AI and improved the prompts so that it could deal with different goals, ask the right questions and really identify what is driving you to achieve this goal. Then I made a basic android app with notifications and tried it out for myself, and it was working for me so then I gave it to my friends. After getting initial feedback I then developed the whole android app as an MVP then ported it to iOS afterwards.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was making it genuinely useful, which is an elusive thing to do. Having the AI ask the right questions, making sure it generated a useful plan for both tiny goals and big abstract ones. But then bringing it altogether in one package so that it actually creates values in peoples lives.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I actually finished it! That final push towards the end of the project when you start doubting yourself, but then to actually publish it was a big step for me. The fear of failure is a really huge thing that has prevented me from taking the final step. So I'm proud of that.

What we learned

Product-Market fit is hard.

What's next for SideHero: AI Habit Coach

Lets see what the users think. I look forward to receiving the feedback and continuing to build in public, reviewing what is working, what isn't and constantly improving the product to provide the most value I possibly can.
