What it does

Sidekick has two features implemented. First, would be Bug Hunt, as it serves as a mini-game for the user to practice their debugging skills. Second is Work Wise, which acts as an interview workplace assessment, where we have OpenAI evaluate the user's response and provide feedback.

Challenges we ran into

Most of the challenges were debugging the transition between the back and front ends of the app. As we had separate teams working on to working on different ends. Another challenge we had was trying to manipulate OpenAI to output a consistent answer for us to display on the front end of the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to implement the OpenAI API as it is still relatively new.

What we learned

This hackathon was the first time for everyone on our team. We learned that communication is very important and that we needed documentation to streamline our requests and response between the front and back ends.

I primarily focused on the backend of the application and helped plan its design. Working with Flask and the new OpenAI API was an exciting opportunity for me to expand my skills in software development. I was responsible for establishing connections between our app and the OpenAI API, and ensuring proper data formatting and processing. Overall, I'm proud of the work we accomplished and eager to continue expanding my expertise in software development.

jason lui
I contributed to the development of the backend infrastructure by configuring the environment and integrating OpenAI's natural language model API. Additionally, I was responsible for establishing efficient routes and resolving any encountered technical obstacles. I was also responsible for deploying the backend code. This involved ensuring that the code was correctly implemented on the production server, testing for any bugs or issues, and resolving them promptly.

Steven Chow
I mainly focused on the front end development of the application. I integrated multiple front end libraries such as DaisyUI or React Query to facilitate a clean user experience.
Additionally, I was responsible for deploying the front end code, which involved making sure that all behaviours of the app work as intended in the production environment.

Oliver Nguyen
Worked on the back-end and integrated Python Flask with OpenAPI API.

Ensured the reliability of the calls by testing them using curl.

Created documentations to streamline request and response parameters with the frontend.

Worked with team members to debug.

Helped with the slides and presentation voice over.

April Cheng
I contributed to the design and development of the user interface and user experience of our web application. I also integrated our backend API to add additional functionality to our application.
I collaborated with the back-end developers to ensure that our front-end design was integrated with the application's functionality. With added feedback from my teammates and incorporated their suggestions into the design as needed. I was testing and refining our front-end design to ensure that our application was more intuitive, user-friendly, and visually appealing.
Overall, I am proud of the contribution I made to our team and the impact we were able to make with our application.
