Inspiration

Side Quests aims to prevent social isolation and maintain friendships by suggesting tailor-made fun activities with friends. We are inspired by the common struggle of "getting plans out of the group chat", and propose a solution to keep connections with friends alive.

What it does

Through frequent reminders to reach out, and the organisation of “side quests” to catch up, Side Quests keeps the spark alive between you and your friends.

Side Quests provides fresh, personalised ideas to keep your relationships thriving, powered by a TikTok style AI recommendation system that learns from the activities you accept or skip, continuously adapting to your preferences over time.

How we built it

Undergoing extensive reiterations, Side Quests was created with usability and practicality in mind. Our tech stack consists of React, tailwind, daisyUI, fastAPI and SQLite.

Challenges we ran into

In the design of the application, we needed to balance a feature-rich UI with practicality. We needed to create a design that captures users, with the constraint of developing in the short time-frame. This meant relying on CSS libraries and JS frameworks to do the heavy lifting by abstracting UI development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We collaborated well to create a solution that all group members were onboard with, after hours of testing the pros and cons of our ideas. We struggled with group's conflicting views on the potential of ideas, but ultimately worked together to design a solution we felt proud of.

What we learned

We learned to be resilient when our opinions conflicted, and to communicate how we felt the direction of the project should take.

What's next for Side Quests

The future of Side Quests will see greater UI responsiveness and interactivity, and a fully featured in-app social system, similar to a social network.
