Inspiration
As a group we began to notice increasing tensions within online communities, presumably due to the stressful situations happening within the real world. We wondered as to how we could help content creators address these tensions.
What it does
Sybil gathers chat logs around specific time stamps (gameplay, ad breaks, lectures etc.), searches for key negative and positive words/phrases and uses those to determine the overall audience viewpoint towards specific content.
How we built it
Using Java we searched for specific keywords to determine if the comment is a negative, positive, or a neutral comment. Through this method we collect and organize all obtained responses, summarize the most prevalent “type” of comment, and return it to the user.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the code initially did not work as intended so that took a lot of time to get a proper workaround.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We deepened our knowledge in Java and have a new project to refine and work towards perfection!
What we learned
We obtained new knowledge regarding utilizing arrays to store and fetch data.
What's next for [O] Sibyl
Despite being in the early stages, we hope to further work on Sybil and eventually create a program flexible enough to correctly assess audience feelings within any sort of chat log. We believe doing so would be an essential first step in helping those responsible for distributing content provide all members of their community with a welcoming and positive atmosphere.
