Summary
We are redesigning the local bus routes on Staten Island to better match demand patterns.
Our Process
First we identified major travel demand generators. From this list of major origins and destinations we compared transit and automobile times during the peak period (Monday at 8-9AM). This allowed us to identify major pain points in the transit network.
For example, the College of Staten Island is only served by one local bus route probably because the campus opened in the 90s but the bus routes were designed in the 50s. There was a lack of North-South routes and there was also a lack of connectivity with New Jersey.
Our overall approach was to create major transit hubs and trunk routes.
