Inspiration

“Shukatsu” takes its name from the Japanese word 就活 (shūkatsu), which means ‘job hunting.’ In Japan, it describes the highly structured process students follow to organize prospects, prepare materials, and secure their first jobs.

What it does

Our app brings that same spirit of focus and organization to today’s job search: a smart job database that helps you track opportunities, generate tailored cover letters, and manage every step of the application process—all in one place. With Shukatsu, your job hunt becomes less overwhelming and more strategic.

How we built it

Shukatsu was built for MacOS using Swift, leveraging Apple Intelligence for smart assistance, Foxit API for document generation, and Vonage API for verification, with SQLite as the lightweight database engine powering job tracking and organization.

Challenges we ran into

It was challenging to build Shukatsu from the ground up in the limited time of a Hackathon. We found the development of the UI particularly challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to create a working build with many of the functions we set out to implment.

What we learned

We learned that integrating powerful APIs into Shukatsu significantly enhances the user experience, transforming the app into a smarter, more seamless tool for job seekers.

What's next for Shukatsu

Use it to land a job that’s the right fit—not just for you, but for the company that hires you.
