Inspiration
We should have a positive approach when dealing with attendance. By rewarding the students that stay on top of things, it will encourage others to do so.
What it does
Set at a certain time interval where students will interact with the app, it will check if the user is within a radius of a certain location and give them points. Several rewards will be available for students to redeem with x amount of points. This does not only encourages the students to be more attentive, but also is a marketing tool for The Titans (Stevenson High School)!
How we built it
I used xCode first to develop the app where I self-taught Swift and decided to cross-platform it into Java with my team member when I was more comfortable with programming.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was learning different APIs within a time crunch and understanding how dissimilar Swift and Java are.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Successfully cross-platforming an application.
What I learned
Taking the time to understand the material rather than jumping into conclusions is more time efficient in the long run as less problems will be encountered.
What's next for SHS Rewards
This app will be available for Stevenson High School students and potentially be pushed through the Utica Community Schools district. ALSO, I would like SHS Rewards to work with PowerSchool with this idea and this could be the new way attendance is taken in schools.
